Kelly Clarkson’s Guidelines for Her Children Post-Divorce
Kelly Clarkson has outlined strict guidelines for her two young children following her separation from their father, Brandon Blackstock.
The 41-year-old singer, who has primary custody of her kids after finalizing her divorce from the music producer in 2022, has made it clear that her daughter River, 9, and son Remington, 7, are not permitted to engage in social media activities.
In an interview with People, the American Idol star emphasized the challenges of raising children in the public eye, stating, “[Social media] can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye. So I have informed them they’re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it].”
Clarkson also expressed the difficulties of maintaining consistent rules for her children in separate households, acknowledging the complexities of co-parenting after a divorce. She recounted a conversation with her daughter where she addressed potential discrepancies in rules between her and her ex-husband, stating, “My daughter was like, ‘Well, what if Dad lets me?’ I’m like, ‘Well, you’re there four days a month. Enjoy that.’ And right now he’s not letting them do it either. I’ll listen when they’re older, but until they have a solid argument, it’s a no.”
The Grammy Award-winning artist, who met Brandon in 2006 and married him in 2013, filed for divorce in 2020, citing irreconcilable differences. Despite the separation, Clarkson remains dedicated to fostering open communication with her children, regularly checking in on their emotional well-being and addressing their desires for her and Brandon to reconcile.
