Kim Kardashian Shares a Parenting Regret About North

January 26, 2024

Kim Kardashian recently unveiled her latest makeup line, Sknn by Kim. However, it seems that her eldest daughter may not be partaking in its use.

To mark the launch of the collection on Friday, January 26, the business mogul shared insights with Bustle about her personal makeup journey and her perspective on the current trend of “Sephora tweens.” Kardashian also delved into the topic of raising her four children – Psalm (4), Chicago (6), Saint (8), and North (10) – and reflected on how she would approach certain aspects differently now.

Despite her reentry into the makeup industry and North occasionally experimenting with makeup, Kardashian has decided against allowing Chicago to do the same. She mentioned, “My littlest one is too young to wear makeup, and I don’t permit it.”

Recalling past moments, Kardashian admitted, “There are instances where I recall letting my daughter wear a red lip for Christmas. Would I make the same choice now? Probably not.”

The founder of Skims referred to Christmas 2018 when North, then five years old, sported bold red lipstick at their annual Christmas Eve celebration.

Addressing the incident, Kardashian defended her decision on X (formerly Twitter) amidst criticism from fans who felt North was too young for lipstick. She stated, “She chose it herself! It’s a special occasion!”

During her marriage to Kanye West, he had enforced a strict no-makeup rule for North.

“He changed all the rules,” Kardashian revealed in a 2019 interview with E! News. “I used to allow her to wear a hint of makeup, like a red lip for Christmas, or a single bold element. For instance, if she wore a black dress, she could have a black lip. But I received backlash for that, so now it’s a complete ban on makeup.”

Kardashian shared insights on North’s affinity for dressing up her friends and experimenting with makeup looks, from Pikachu to the Grinch. She mentioned, “I don’t believe she’s at the stage where she frequents Sephora to try on products.”

Recounting a recent incident at Saks in the cosmetics section, where North playfully tested a product by drawing a heart on her face, Kardashian humorously remarked, “I don’t think that’s the intended use of eyeliner.”

Despite this, Kardashian supports her daughters exploring makeup at home as a form of self-expression. She expressed, “They enjoy rummaging through my makeup drawers. It’s like a fun activity for them. Watching them experiment with makeup is entertaining for me.”

“They enjoy playing with their friends, applying makeup, and then promptly washing it off. It’s an art form for them to experiment with makeup, which I find delightful to witness,” Kardashian shared with Bustle.

In the interview, the reality star also discussed the possibility of her children inheriting the brand.

“If any of them wish to take over, they are more than welcome to,” she stated, emphasizing that she wants her children to pursue their passions and happiness, even if it means not venturing into the beauty industry.

“I would love for them to be involved, but ultimately, I want them to follow their hearts. Whether or not they choose to enter the beauty business, I will support their decisions wholeheartedly,” Kardashian affirmed.
