Co-Parenting Efforts: Alicia Keys and Her Spouse’s Dedication

February 12, 2024

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats have a lovely family of seven — and no, she wasn’t hinting at a pregnancy during the Super Bowl.

Keeping up with any celebrity family can be quite intriguing, especially as more households deviate from the traditional nuclear family structure. Singer Alicia Keys and her spouse Swizz Beats appear to have mastered the art of managing their unique family dynamic.

Alicia and Swizz tied the knot in 2010, and together they have a large family that includes Swizz’s children from previous relationships. Here’s a breakdown of their blended family.

Alicia has two biological children, contributing to a total of five in their blended family.

In October 2010, Alicia welcomed her first child, Egypt Daoud Dean. Despite still being a teenager, it’s evident that Alicia’s eldest has inherited his parents’ musical abilities. Egypt is credited as a producer on Kendrick Lamar’s 2016 album Untitled Unmastered. He has also shared the stage with his mother for a rendition of “Raise a Man” and collaborated with Alicia on “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for her Sweet Dreams EP.

Their youngest, Genesis Ali Dean, was born in December 2014. Similar to his older brother, Genesis has accompanied his mother on tour and performed alongside her. Genesis made his debut performance with Alicia during her encore at the Apollo Theater show in 2021.

Before Alicia and Swizz exchanged vows in 2010, Swizz was a father to three children from previous relationships — all of whom have been embraced and cherished within the couple’s blended family. Swizz’s eldest, Prince Nasir Dean, was born in 2000 to his former partner Nicole Levy. Prince, also known as Note Marcato, even accompanied his family to the Grammy Awards in 2020, the year Alicia hosted the event.

Kasseem Dean Jr., Swizz’s second eldest, was born in December 2006 during his marriage to his ex-wife Mashonda Tifrere. As Mashonda and Alicia navigated co-parenting, they developed a closer relationship, with Mashonda expressing to People, “I wanted to get to know her because my son was telling me amazing things.” Alicia even penned the foreword for Mashonda’s 2018 book, Blend: The Secret to Co-Parenting and Creating a Balanced Family.

Swizz’s youngest child, Nicole Dean, is from his previous relationship with Jahna Sebastian. Nicole, born in 2008, holds the position of the middle child in Swizz and Alicia’s blended family, despite being close in age to her immediate younger sibling.

Is Alicia Keys expecting?

Speculation arose during her Super Bowl performance suggesting that the singer might be pregnant with her third child. Following Rihanna’s public announcement of her second pregnancy by flaunting her baby bump, some wondered if Alicia was following suit.

However, the conjecture was solely based on minor bloating in her attire — insufficient evidence to draw conclusions about a possible pregnancy.

As of now, Alicia has not confirmed any pregnancy news, indicating that 2024 did not mark another surprise pregnancy announcement from a female artist for the second consecutive year. Whether or not Alicia is indeed pregnant, the decision to share such news rests entirely with her and her personal timeline.
