Mo’Nique and Sidney Hicks Address Son’s Allegations of Neglect

February 14, 2024

Mo’Nique and her spouse Sidney Hicks have responded to the statements made by the comedian’s son, Shalon Jackson, regarding their relationship. Jackson accused Mo’Nique of insincerity in her recent comments about their bond. In a social media post on Tuesday (Feb. 13), the couple addressed Jackson’s claims, including his feelings of neglect as a son.

In an Instagram video, both Mo’Nique and Sidney directly addressed the situation with her son. Mo’Nique, known for her role in Precious, acknowledged criticisms of her mothering skills, urging observers to let the situation unfold. She drew parallels to past criticisms she faced, emphasizing the need to wait and see the truth revealed, similar to what happened previously.

Mo’Nique also clarified Jackson’s reference to Sidney as “daddy,” pointing out that he has always been known as “Uncle Sid” to Jackson. She highlighted the long-standing relationship between Sidney and Jackson’s biological father, emphasizing that Sidney cannot be considered Jackson’s father as he has always been an uncle figure in his life.

Adding to the discussion, Sidney recalled the support they provided to Jackson, including financial assistance and guidance, despite not having seen each other since 2021. He emphasized the efforts made to help Jackson, such as assisting with newborn necessities and advising on car purchases.

The conflict between Mo’Nique and her son arose following Mo’Nique’s appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, where she discussed taking responsibility for their strained relationship. In response, Jackson posted a TikTok video disputing Mo’Nique’s portrayal of their connection as a “false narrative.” He expressed a mutual lack of interest in reconciling, stating that neither of them is willing to make the effort to mend their relationship.

The ongoing exchange between mother and son underscores the complexities of their familial dynamics and the challenges they face in resolving their differences.
