Hoda Kotb recently engaged in a discussion with Savannah Guthrie about her latest publication. During the conversation, Kotb shared how the book assisted her in navigating challenging moments in parenting.
The heartfelt dialogue regarding Guthrie’s literary work, Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere, took place on Wednesday as part of the fifth season premiere of Kotb’s podcast, Making Space.
Within the collection of essays, Guthrie, aged 52, explores the significant role that faith has played in her life. On the other hand, Kotb, aged 59, expressed how revisiting the book instilled hope and confidence in her parental journey with her two daughters: Haley Joy, aged 7, and Hope Catherine, aged 4.
Reflecting on her experience, Kotb mentioned, “You know, what’s funny, I read the book when you first sent [it] to me — chapter by chapter. And I reread it last night when I was going through a difficult time with my daughter and I was worried, ‘Am I enough? Am I doing it right?‘” Her voice trembled with emotion as she continued to share her sentiments.
She further elaborated, “It’s so interesting because there is a part in here that — I don’t remember where it is now because I have so many dog ears — but it makes a parallel on how God loves us like how we love our own children.” Overwhelmed with feelings, the mother of two acknowledged the profound impact of the book on her perspective.
Guthrie, a mother to Vale, aged 9, and Charley, aged 7, with her husband, Michael Feldman, empathized with Kotb’s sentiments. She described the journey of motherhood as “a revelation on every single level,” emphasizing the inherent vulnerability and occasional fears that come with parenting.
