All parents aspire to appear trendy in the eyes of their children, don’t they? I certainly do—and Adam Sandler can relate. He recently discussed his efforts to impress his daughters Sadie, 17, and Sunny, 15, whom he shares with his wife Jackie Sandler, by engaging with one of their favorite pop idols: Taylor Swift.

During an episode of Sirius XM’s Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Conan O’Brien inquired about any celebrities that made him nervous. Sandler confessed, “You know what, Taylor Swift, because of what she represents to my kids, I get a bit jittery. I just don’t want to disappoint my kids,” Sandler shared.

“So I’m like, ‘Taylor, Taylor,’ I might speak too loudly or something. I don’t maintain my composure as well as I should,” he admitted.
“You shout her name outside her house. Taylor!” O’Brien joked.
“Engage with me,” Sandler added with a chuckle.
“Communicate with me. Yeah, I can understand that. She’s on a whole different level now,” O’Brien remarked.

“People talk about The Beatles and her. I mean, countless chart-toppers. There isn’t a word my kids aren’t familiar with,” Sandler revealed. He continued, “I know them too, by the way. But they know them inside out. It’s like, remember The Beatles, every track on the album, you knew them all? That’s Taylor Swift too. You don’t skip a single song. You listen and think, ‘That one’s pretty awesome.’”

Sandler’s daughters, Sunny and Sadie, had the opportunity to meet the “Karma” songstress in person when they attended the premiere of the Eras Tour Film in Los Angeles in October 2023, accompanied by their father. In a viral video from the event, shared by Deadline Hollywood, the “Anti-Hero” artist paused to embrace the girls and then posed for a photo with them, taken by Sandler himself.

Despite casting them in his movies, Sandler still struggles to earn cool points with his teenage daughters. At the Spaceman premiere, he mentioned to reporters that his daughters remain unimpressed. “They still don’t engage with you. They do their own thing,” he remarked, as reported by PEOPLE. He added, “They make an effort, and then they pursue their interests. I stand by the side saying, ‘Love you.’ I express my love to them frequently.”
Sandler’s daughters have appeared in several of his films, including the animated Netflix production Leo. During a November 2023 interview on Extra: The Podcast, he discussed the enjoyment of working with his family.
“My kids have grown up on sets, discussing movies, and being part of movies… from a young age,” he shared. “This is what they talk about, this is what they aspire to do. Time will tell if it persists, but currently, this is their passion. And we have a great time, the four of us, discussing our craft.”
