Victoria Beckham has extended birthday wishes to Brooklyn Beckham in a manner befitting Posh Spice.
On 4 March, the 49-year-old fashion icon took to Instagram to commemorate her eldest son’s 25th birthday. In one post, Victoria shared a nostalgic video of a young Brooklyn singing along with his father, David Beckham, at a Spice Girls concert.
“Happy birthday Brooklyn. We all adore you immensely,” she captioned the video. “Generous, humorous, talented with the most compassionate and giving heart. We are extremely proud of the son, big brother, and husband you are. You consistently prioritize others before yourself. Your affection and vitality are extraordinary and leave a lasting impact on everyone you encounter. We cherish you!!!!!”
In a subsequent post, Victoria seized the moment to laud both herself and husband David for their parenting abilities. “Today marks Brooklyn’s 25th birthday!!! David, I adore you deeply and I’m exceedingly proud of the parents we have become,” she expressed alongside a snapshot of the couple – married since 1999 – posing with the aspiring chef.
“We make a great team!!!! Happy birthday,” Victoria appended.
Predictably, her birthday tribute sparked amusement among Instagram followers, with some noting that she had shifted the focus of Brooklyn’s birthday post to herself – whether intentionally or not.
“Odd choice of words on your son’s birthday!” remarked one Instagram user.
“Why do I find this caption so amusing,” another chimed in.
“Today is about Brooklyn, not you Vic,” a third individual remarked, accompanied by a crying laughing emoji.
Several individuals criticized the mother of four for utilizing Brooklyn’s birthday tribute to commend herself and David on their parenting skills.
“How strange that this post centers on how amazing she is,” one person remarked. “Perhaps we should express this sentiment to all our children on their birthdays.”
Another inquired, “How is this about David?”
Despite the criticism, numerous fans came to the defense of the former Spice Girls member, acknowledging the challenges of raising a family – especially in the public eye.
“I appreciate this perspective. Parenting is incredibly tough and we, as parents, should celebrate OUR accomplishment in guiding a child to another birthday,” one user responded. “Yes, it’s wonderful for them, but taking a moment to celebrate yourself and your partnership with your co-parent is also important.”
“Why bother leaving negative comments?” another fan questioned. “Victoria is extremely proud of her son, she vocalizes it, and furthermore, it’s due to the upbringing by his parents, David and Victoria… Why do you always feel the need to nitpick unnecessarily!”
Meanwhile, the former Manchester United footballer penned his own birthday tribute to Brooklyn on Monday. Taking to Instagram, he shared a throwback video of a young Brooklyn on the soccer field with his father. David sported his trademark red jersey and iconic buzzcut, while a toddler Brooklyn sported a mini Manchester United long-sleeve shirt to match his dad.
“Happy 25th Birthday to my big boy, so proud of the man you have become, maintaining the same values of politeness and kindness that you were raised with,” the Inter Miami co-owner wrote. “We adore you immensely and hope you have the most fantastic day.”
Brooklyn has since tied the knot with 29-year-old model Nicola Peltz. The couple exchanged vows during an extravagant Palm Beach wedding in April 2022. To mark his birthday, the Last Airbender actress posted a photo of herself and her husband strolling in the rain, with Brooklyn holding an umbrella over their heads.
“Happy birthday @brooklynpeltzbeckham I wish for all your dreams to come true,” she captioned the Instagram post on Monday. “I love you immensely. You possess the most beautiful heart, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have you in my life.”
Apart from Brooklyn, David and Victoria have three other children: sons Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19, and daughter Harper, 12.
