Homeschooling Guide for Positive Parenting

GROVE CITY, Pa. (WYTV) — Tonya Beatty has recently launched Bookends, a bookstore in Grove City that offers more than just books.

“It should also serve as a hub for homeschoolers to purchase and explore curriculum,” Beatty explained. “It’s a place where those curious about homeschooling can gather information and seek advice.”

Drawing from her own experience of homeschooling her daughters, Beatty acknowledges that while homeschooling may not suit every family, it has been a successful choice for hers.

“If a subject comes naturally to them, they can progress quickly and thrive. Conversely, if they encounter difficulties, they have the flexibility to slow down and grasp the concepts,” Beatty noted.

One of her daughters, who struggled with social anxiety, surprised many with her positive response to homeschooling.

“Surprisingly, she blossomed in this environment. Her confidence grew, and she became more sociable and self-assured. I believe it was because she felt more secure,” Beatty shared.

Reflecting on her homeschooling journey, Morgan Beatty, now a homeschool graduate with a master’s degree, appreciated the freedom to explore her interests.

“I enjoyed the autonomy to delve into topics that intrigued me. If there was a subject I was passionate about, my mom would tailor a curriculum around it,” Morgan expressed.

Despite her academic success, Morgan humorously admitted to one minor regret about her homeschooling experience.

“I must confess, I did envy the traditional students on snow days!”
