Some elected officials and legislators in Michigan are finally making a move to hold parents accountable for the upbringing of their school-age children.
It is surprising that this action has been delayed for so long. Over an extended period, some parents have relied on the television as a babysitter or expected schools to assume full responsibility for their children, simply stating, “That’s what my taxes are for.”
While many parents are deeply invested in their children’s upbringing, others allow their children to veer towards delinquency, bullying, drug dealing, theft, and more. The correctional facilities house individuals who may have avoided incarceration if their parents had prioritized raising them properly.
Schools should focus on educating our children rather than being preoccupied with behavioral issues that parents ought to address.
Remember, parenting is the most crucial role you will ever undertake! No amount of wealth can substitute for being a responsible parent.
Acknowledging that financial constraints and economic challenges exist for some families, many parents can still engage their children in youth sports, visit the library, or attend religious services.
From the moment a child is born, parents should actively impart their wisdom to their offspring. These children will eventually have their families, making us the guardians of the future.
