Responding to Mo’Nique’s “Misleading Portrayal” of Parenting: Oldest Son Sets the Record Straight on ‘Club Shay Shay’

February 13, 2024

Mo’Nique’s eldest son, Shalon Jackson, has opened up about their distant relationship following the comedian’s notable appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast.

In a TikTok video lasting almost 10 minutes, Jackson addresses the segment of the interview where the Precious actress talks about her supposed efforts to mend their bond by “praying to the universe”.

Jackson, who is also a stand-up comic, chose to script his response to maintain composure and clarity while sharing his perspective.

“I aim to release her from perpetuating that falsehood,” Jackson expressed. “Faith devoid of action is futile, and neither of us is willing to invest the effort to reconcile. We remain apart, as she phrases it, because she has no inclination to be a mother to me, just as I feel no obligation to be her son.”

He further elaborated that there has been no communication between them for a considerable period, highlighting that Mo’Nique’s current spouse disregards his existence despite her discussions about their strained history in the viral interview.

“Neither of us has felt the urge to reach out for quite some time, and I doubt that desire will resurface,” he remarked. “I’m weary of hearing my mother’s ‘truths’… standing by your truth doesn’t equate to nobility.”

Jackson added, “This response allows me to express myself without interruption. For those questioning the timing of my statement, consider it a form of therapy.” He later shared that Mo’Nique confessed to him about not giving her best effort.

“To be candid and fair, those were issues I was willing to move past. Imperfection is universal; we are all human. However, my mother exhibited a distinct lack of humility, empathy, and accountability. While she acknowledges many things, taking responsibility is not her strong suit. Any genuine accountability on her part is selective and self-serving in my experience.”

During her conversation with Shannon Sharpe, Mo’Nique revealed her strategy of allowing time to heal the rift between her and her son.

“Time may facilitate that healing, or it may not. As parents, we must acknowledge, ‘I’ve done my part. I’ve owned up to it. The rest is up to you,‘” the 56-year-old articulated.

In other parts of the extensive interview, Mo’Nique delved into her connections with Tyler Perry, Oprah, Katt Williams, and more. To watch Shalon Jackson’s TikTok response and the full episode of Club Shay Shay, refer to the links provided above.
