At 44 years old, Kate mentioned to PEOPLE that she was merely “only a couple years older” than her son when she conceived him. The renowned Almost Famous actress expressed, “That’s been the wild discovery for me. I just can’t believe that I was only a couple years older than him when I decided to have a child.”

She expressed, “I’m definitely more present as a mother now that I’m older. With Ryder, our relationship is so special because I grew up with him.”

She further elaborated, “The significant learning phase of my life and my journey into womanhood coincided with my experience as a mother.” The esteemed How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star added, “Raising kids is not an easy task. Embracing the Evolution

In the process of raising children, one can easily lose sight of everything else. Kate reflected on this, stating, “[I was] just engrossed and fully present while raising him, and then they spread their wings, and suddenly, they’re adults!” In a recent article by PEOPLE, the “Talk About Love” songstress shared, “You look back and think, ‘Wow, I can’t believe [it].’”

Currently attending New York University alongside Deacon Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon’s son, Ryder is flourishing according to Kate. She mentioned that he is excelling, content with his life, and relishing his experiences. As a mother, what more could one wish for?

However, there is one longing… “I wish he resided a bit closer,” Kate expressed to PEOPLE. “But witnessing him navigate his adulthood is immensely gratifying. He’s an independent adult now, out in the world, carving his path. … Our bond is strong, and I couldn’t be prouder.”

In a December 2022 interview with TODAY, the California native opened up about missing her son, sharing, “It’s incredibly tough. All a parent desires is for their child to thrive and find happiness. Yet, when I’m in LA, and I don’t hear his voice at the coffee machine in the morning, it’s truly heart-wrenching.”

Parenting is indeed a rollercoaster of emotions, and Kate Hudson’s journey exemplifies that it doesn’t necessarily get easier as your children grow older, particularly in the emotional realm of parenthood.
