Parent Urges Exclusion of “Constantly Screaming” Kids from Costco

March 8, 2024

My family and I have a weekly tradition of visiting Costco together, including my husband, our 4-year-old, and myself. We enjoy exploring the wide range of items available, from jewelry to stainless steel pans to large flat-screen TVs while doing our weekly shopping.

Sampling various snacks and ending our trip with a meal at the food court, where the affordable \(8.50 total somehow justifies the hefty \)200+ bill, has become a regular part of our Costco routine. The store truly offers everything we could need, almost like a magical treasure trove.

Despite our initial intention to purchase frozen chicken bites, we often find ourselves leaving with unexpected items like a camping tent. It’s amazing how that happens at Costco, isn’t it?

While Costco is far from a tranquil and serene environment, resembling more of a bustling free-for-all, not everyone appreciates the chaos. Recently, a TikTok mom named Tori (@thatmomtori) shared a video expressing her frustration about noisy children at Costco, suggesting that parents should consider leaving their kids at home to enjoy a peaceful shopping experience.

Tori’s video captured her enjoying a slice of pizza at the Costco food court, with the background noise dominated by children’s chatter, occasional yells, and screams. She emphasized the importance of leaving kids with the other parent to avoid disruptive behavior during outings like these.

However, some viewers questioned the validity of Tori’s argument, pointing out that Costco is not exactly known for its tranquil dining atmosphere. They highlighted the challenges of balancing family time, work schedules, and the desire to enjoy outings together.

While Tori’s perspective may have been misconstrued, it raises important questions about parental expectations in public spaces like Costco. Rather than criticizing families for bringing their children along, perhaps a more understanding and inclusive approach could benefit everyone involved.

In a society that often overlooks the needs of children, it’s essential to create spaces where families feel welcome and supported, even amidst the hustle and bustle of a retail giant like Costco.
