The Vanderpump Rules cast member discussed this topic at a premiere event for Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules, which will delve deeper into their post-divorce relationship. Tom confirmed that he and his former spouse share custody of their dogs, Butter and Gordo, acknowledging that the arrangement has its challenges at times.

“It can become contentious,” he shared with People magazine.

While he didn’t delve into specifics regarding their co-parenting challenges, Tom emphasized that he and Katie have established “a solid equilibrium” for the most part.

“I believe we’ve faced some difficult moments in our post-divorce bond,” he elaborated. “I believe we always handle it with dignity… And I’m truly content.”

Tom Schwartz Reflects on His Bond with Butter and Gordo

In a 2021 interview with BravoTV.com, Tom discussed his bond with his canine companions, highlighting how the lockdowns brought them closer together.

“We’ve spent a lot of quality time together. Perhaps they’ve developed some attachment issues after this past year,” he remarked. “Not to mention, they enjoy gourmet meals and treats every day. They were our companions during tough times. They were always there for us. They brought us immense joy this year. But certainly, there are some attachment issues.”

The Impact of Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney’s Dogs on Their Separation

Tom and Katie ended their marriage in early 2022, nearly three years after tying the knot. Amid their divorce process, Tom took to Instagram to provide a brief update on Butter and Gordo, referring to them as the “offspring of divorce.”

Katie also touched on this topic in the Vanderpump Rules Season 10 premiere, expressing how Butter and Gordo played a significant role in maintaining an amicable relationship with Tom.

“We’re not best buddies, we’re not extremely close, but we’re striving to find that sweet spot,” she shared. “Because we share dogs and a lot of affection for each other, and I just feel like he’s still such a huge part of my life, and not having him in my life just feels really strange.”

Tom Schwartz Contemplates Leaving California

Undoubtedly, Tom and Katie’s proximity in Southern California has facilitated their co-parenting arrangement. However, Tom acknowledged that there might come a time when their joint custody arrangement ends due to either him or Katie relocating.

“I believe I might have five—perhaps 10 years left in me, at most,” he mentioned regarding staying in the Los Angeles region. “I’m contemplating living with some goats in the mountains. Perhaps Colorado or Wyoming.”
