Grateful Musician Embraces Ministry Challenges and Blessings in Foster Parenting

January 25, 2024

Multiplatinum singer-songwriter Mack Brock has been a spouse for 18 years and a parent for 12 years, while also being in his fourth year of foster parenting. Despite his commitments to family and a successful music career, Brock prioritizes his role as a worship leader above all else. His primary goal is to compose songs that honor God and direct individuals towards Jesus.

Brock’s musical compositions vary in focus, ranging from exaltation songs that celebrate God’s attributes and glory to personal expressions of gratitude for God’s work in his life. Additionally, he creates songs centered on faith and belief in God’s power. Regardless of the theme, all of Brock’s songs revolve around the narrative of Jesus—either highlighting His character, deeds, or the hope He offers.

Having grown up as a pastor’s child with a father who led a church in South Carolina, and married to Meredith Brock, the CEO of Proverbs 31 Ministries, Brock is deeply immersed in a life surrounded by ministry. His music endeavors aim to recapture the moments when God has visibly intervened in his life.

One significant aspect of Brock’s journey involves his decision to relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina, guided by faith despite the lack of apparent logical advantages. Each time he and his wife embraced obedience and ventured forth in faith, they witnessed God’s faithfulness in remarkable ways. This pattern of stepping out in faith led them to Elevation Church, where they found a sense of purpose in alignment with God’s plan.

Embracing the call to foster parenting, initially met with apprehension, Brock gradually opened his heart to the experience. Despite the challenges inherent in raising foster children, Brock acknowledges the blessings that come with providing a loving home. Brock stresses how important it is to make well-informed choices when accepting foster placements, recognizing how important it is to know your own limits.

The supportive foster parenting community and the arrival of a foster child named “Z” further enriched Brock’s life and inspired his recent songwriting endeavors. His single “Just Like You’ve Always Done,” released in late 2023, reflects his journey of adoption and the profound spiritual parallels of being adopted by Christ.

Navigating the demands of ministry and parenthood, Brock acknowledges the occasional difficulties and moments of potential burnout. By delegating responsibilities and nurturing capable leaders within his church, he ensures a sustainable balance in his commitments. Through the uncertainties of life and the music industry, Brock relies on his unwavering faith in Jesus, recognizing God’s consistent presence and faithfulness in every season.
